Who we are
Basuni German Language Courses ("we", "us") provides online German language teaching and operates this website. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. You can reach us at hallo@german.basuni.com for any privacy question or request.
Personal data we collect
- Enrolment details — your name, email address, contact number, current and target German level, your chosen programme, plan and session count, and the reason you gave for wanting to learn German.
- Purchase records — the programme purchased, amount, currency, payment status and the transaction or subscription reference supplied by our payment provider. We never receive or store your card or bank account details.
- Support and correspondence — messages you send us by email or through the site.
- Technical data — IP address, device and browser information and basic usage data generated when you visit the site, used for security and to keep the service working.
Why we use it and our legal basis
- Creating your enrolment, scheduling classes and delivering the course you bought — performance of our contract with you.
- Sending enrolment confirmations, receipts and service messages about your course — performance of our contract with you.
- Responding to your questions and providing support — performance of our contract and our legitimate interest in helping our students.
- Keeping the site secure and preventing fraud or misuse — our legitimate interest in protecting the service.
- Improving our courses and website — our legitimate interest in developing our teaching.
- Keeping accounting and tax records — compliance with a legal obligation.
- Optional marketing emails about new courses — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who we share it with
- Our Merchant of Record, Paddle.com — Paddle is the seller of record for all our orders and processes the sale, subscription management, payments, invoicing and tax compliance.
- Service providers (subprocessors) — hosting, database, and email delivery providers that operate the website and send our messages on our instructions.
- Professional advisers — accountants and legal advisers where necessary.
- Authorities — where we are required to disclose data by law.
We do not sell your personal data. Where data is processed outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
Enrolment and course records are kept for as long as you are a student and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can answer questions about your course. Records connected to payments are kept for as long as accounting and tax law requires. When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, restriction of processing, a portable copy, and you may object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email hallo@german.basuni.com and we will respond within one month. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls limiting who can view enrolment records, and server-side handling of all sensitive operations.
Cookies
We use only cookies and local storage that are strictly necessary to operate the site, to keep your session working and to run the secure checkout provided by our payment provider. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may then not work.

We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
